Dr. Landreneau has extensive experience treating mesothelioma patients. He served as director of the Lung Cancer Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for more than 20 years. During that time he saw hundreds of mesothelioma patients and performed surgical debulking with hyperthermic chemoperfusion procedures.
Hyperthermic chemoperfusion is a treatment in which warmed anti-cancer drugs are infused and circulated in the pleural cavity for a short period of time. This procedure has been shown to help reduce the microscopic cancer cells that might otherwise remain after surgery. Dr. Landreneau is currently serving as the director of the esophageal and Lung Institute at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburg Pennsylvania.
